Winter Solstice is a time of year when the day is shortest and the night longest out of all the other days of the year.
The winter Solstice occurs on the 21 of December, June in the southern hemisphere. Once every 4 years the solstice shifts forward a day in the northern hemisphere and the year after back a day in the southern hemisphere. So every year that ends with 03, 07, 11, 15, 19, 23, 27, 31, 35, 39, 41, 47, 51, 55, 59, 63, 67, 71, 75, 79, 81, 87, 91, 95, and 99, the day is changed in the north. Winter Solstice along with its summer counterpart is also the astronomical end of the year. So you have one year with each day getting lighter, and the other darker. Winter solstice is also when the sun is lowest in the sky, while Summer Solstice the sun is at it’s highest. Winter Solstice is also considered the “Atheist Christmas” celebrated by atheists and freethinkers worldwide. On this day they have parties, exchange gifts, send cards to their family and friends, and most importantly exchange gifts. This day also has many religious qualities, for example: during ancient times prehistoric aboriginals would look to the sky in winter and see the sun getting lower in the sky. This was a great fear for them because at that point in winter they were solely surviving on what they had stored for winter. They were afraid that the sun would leave them and they forever be in pitch-blackness. But after the longest night without the help of astronomical instruments they would notice that the sun would once again rise up in the sky. To celebrate they held feats and other assortments of things. Because they had no elaborate instruments and could not exactly pinpoint when the sun rose. Festivities usually took place on or around Dec. 25th. Well that’s all I have to say for today on Winter Solstice please have a fun and safe day! (No really it’s dark out way early so get a headlamp or something.)
Dick Here! I snuck this in after Connor fell asleep when I shot a sleep dart into… um I mean after a long day of work. Yea that’s what I meant. So far I don’t know what Winter Solstice is because I didn’t bother reading what Connor wrote. All I know is that it’s dark outside and I’m scared! But it couldn’t have anything to do with that! I promise I will find out what Winter Solstice is! Even if it put’s Ray’s life in danger! Uh-oh Connor’s waking up. I don’t think he’ll be happy I stole from his wallet. Or hacked his bank account.
I love it Connor – Daddy
